Convert PSD to EPS

This article will be your guide in converting PSD files to EPS files without much trouble. We will also briefly discuss what each file is and why converting could be beneficial to you if you’ve never converted a files before.

PSD Files

PSD files, or Photoshop Document files, are files that can be used in Adobe Photoshop. PSD files are very versatile in that they store all kinds of information about layers and other functions that are common across Photoshop and across other Adobe Creative Suite products. Moving this file from one CS product to another is relatively easy and can allow for creativity to not be hindered as files move from program to program.

EPS Files

EPS files on the other hand are a little more restrictive in nature. They’re designed to convert all of the text and graphics of a working image (such as in Photoshop or Illustrator) and put it into something a little more definite. By not transferring information about vectors and layers, EPS files are image files (like JPEGs and GIFs) that can be used across many platforms. They’re smaller in size and more definite in nature, making them less difficult to “mess up” if they’re transferred into another image editing program.

Manually

It is possible to convert PSD files into EPS files manually through the Photoshop program. By opening up Photoshop and subsequently the PSD file you’d like to convert, you can use the Save As function within Photoshop to make the conversion. By choosing EPS from the drop down menu within Photoshop, you can then convert a single PSD file into an EPS file in just a few seconds. However, this process can be time consuming if you have many images you’d like to convert to the new format.

ImageConverterPlus

A program called Image Converter Plus will allow you to easily convert PSD files to EPS files from Windows Explorer or through the program itself. With the program installed, the steps to complete the conversion are as follows.

1. Find the files you would like to convert within the Windows Explorer window.



2. Select the files you would like to convert. (You can select multiple files at a time by holding the CTRL button on your keyboard.)



3. Next, right click on the files you have selected and move your mouse down to the “Convert To” option.



4. A submenu will appear. At the bottom of the submenu that has appeared, choose the option for “Custom Conversion.”



5. The ImageConverterPlus program will start up, at which point you will be able to choose the format you’d like to save the images as. You do this by finding the “Save images in (blank) format,” with the blank being a drop down box where you can choose “EPS.”



6. Lastly, choose any additional settings you’d like to apply to the conversion such as color bit depth and click start. The images will by default export to the folder that the PSD files are in so that they can easily be found again.
