From the last two articles, remember King and his dominant dog behavior? King was the leader of his pack — Mom, Dad, 2 kids. King set the rules in the house and didn’t hesitate to enforce them, with growling, snapping, and even biting. I introduced 3 simple dog training steps to help you begin to take the leadership role back from King.

Then there was Queenie and her family (especially Mom), who gently took the leadership position. Queenie learned dog manners and wonderful dog behavior through Mom’s gentle but firm positive dog training methods and her consistency in teaching Queenie house rules. Queenie was eager to learn and to please and received lots of praise and tons of treats. With humans as pack leaders and dogs as pack members (preferably at the bottom of the hierarchy!), the whole household is calm and happy.

Let’s talk about your household. Your angel might not be as dominant or aggressive as King, and you may have worked with her some but not quite enough to have a dog similar to Queenie. Time is sometimes a factor — with our lives as busy as they are, sometimes it’s difficult to make time to for even short periods of dog training. But if you’ll give it a little effort, the payoff will be tremendous. You can change your dog’s behavior in no time at all.

1. Are you sick?!

One of the first concerns with new or unwanted behaviors (e.g., excessive urination) is a health concern. Get a vet check to address any health concerns that might cause behaviors your dog has no control over.

2. Down every day!

Put your dog in a “down” position for 5-10 minutes every day. This reinforces for your dog that you are the leader. Beginning this program may involve many jump-ups. Just gently and firmly put the dog back down. (No need to restart time.) You will notice that the breaks of command quickly fall away. It’s fine for your dog to sleep through this one!

3. Do that AGAIN!

Dogs love routine. They have incredible internal clocks. One activity that dogs love and that routine is important is mealtime. I suggest feeding dogs two times a day (no running buffet) within an hour window each time (e.g., 7-8AM and 5-6PM). Watch your dog — if you do something regularly, they come to expect it and act appropriately. Other activities that can become routine are morning or evening walks, Saturday errands, the time you come home from work. If it’s a regular thing, your dog knows it’s going to happen.

4. Brush, brush, brush the coat!

One activity you both can enjoy is grooming. Daily gentle grooming reinforces a loving relationship with your dog. This can become prized private time for both of you.

5. Through the paces– Every day!

Obedience training is very important to do every day, even for 5 minutes at a time. Try to avoid the military commando approach. Be consistent and kind, get your dog’s attention first, praise, praise, praise for his willingness and compliance to your commands. Practicing obedience reinforces that you are the leader.

Mercury Makes Some Changes to the 2010 Mountaineer

The Mercury Mountaineer, Mercury’s version of the midsize Ford Explorer SUV, returns for 2010 with no engine changes.

Base and Premier models come standard with a 4.0-liter SOHC V6. This 12-valve engine is the latest iteration of Ford’s long-lived Cologne V6, developed in the mid-sixties by Ford of Germany. Originally an all-iron pushrod engine, it was updated in 1997 with aluminum heads and overhead camshafts. A jackshaft in the block, located where the camshaft used to reside, drives each cam via a timing chain. This engine is shared with the Ford Explorer, as well as the Ford Ranger, Mazda B-Series, Land Rover LR3, and Ford Mustang. In the Mountaineer, it produces 210 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque.

Optional on Premier models is Ford’s 4.6-liter modular V8. This SOHC engine, shared by the Explorer, Expedition, Mustang, and F-150 pickup, is also a very old design, dating back to 1991. Truck versions of this engine were updated in 2006 with three valves per cylinder and Ford’s Variable Cam Timing system, but they still use a cast-iron block. In the Mountaineer, the 24-valve V8 makes 292 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque.

Critics find both engines more than adequate for the Mountaineer’s weight, although even the V8 fails to match the muscle of newer rivals like the Nissan Armada. In daily commuting, the V8 does not feel dramatically stronger than the V6, although its extra torque gives it the edge for towing, and it is noticeably more refined. Both engines are well muffled, except at full throttle.

With nearly two and a half tons to haul, neither engine is thrifty. Surprisingly, EPA estimates suggest that the V8 is the more economical of the two, thanks mostly to its six-speed automatic; the V6’s automatic has only five speeds. Both engines use regular fuel.

It is not exactly a sequel to, Forgetting Sarah Marshall because although Russell Brand plays the same character, hard partying rock star, Aldous Snow of the band Infant Sorrow, the other actor starring in this film, Jonah Hill, does not retain his role from, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. While this is slightly confusing and does not actually make a whole lot of sense, it is best for the viewer to just forget this minor detail and enjoy the comedy of the movie rather than sit and poke holes in the plot, which is of course, easier for some people than it is for others.

The plot revolves around a young intern at a record label, Jonah Hill, lying a little bit in his resume to get his dream job and then landing a big assignment right away. His difficult assignment is to take rocker, Aldous Snow, who has recently rediscovered partying and drinking after a failed single release and subsequent break up with his girlfriend, from London and get him to the Greek theater in Los Angeles. While at face value, many people would assume this to be a simple movie with gross out humor and typical jokes that people would expect for summer, teenage oriented films, and many reviews have in fact, suggested that it is more of a satire on the life of many rock stars. In fact, the film is said to have an excellent message deep down which suggests that the rock star life is not nearly what many of the people in it claim it to be and can often lead to bad things.

Actually, Get Him to the Greek is one of the best reviewed comedies of the year and many people are saying it is one of the funniest movies of the 2010 movie season so far. The film has in fact, been critically acclaimed by such critics from such famous papers as the New Yorker and such famed movie critics as Richard Roeper.

3. On the menu bar click file > new

A dialog box will open the first input box will contain the name of your document, the preset input box will open different types of canvases. For this purpose use the drop-down menu on the input box to choose Default  Photoshop  Size. Leave the other settings as is. Then a new white document will appear in the  Photoshop  window. You may then add the color of your choice to the image. For this purpose I will use the Paint bucket on the toolbar to the left.

· Choose the background colors picker at the bottom of the toolbar to find a color for your background it is the one with the double arrow just click on the top square not the double arrow, and a color picker will open.

· Choose a color then go to the toolbar and pick the paint bucket, Click on your document and the paint bucket will color it.

In the layers panel you will see it is titled “background.” Now you will add your other layers by picking images or text to add to the background.

To find an image go to file and open an image that is stored on your hard drive or in Adobe Bridge to add to the background. Text and shapes can be added as a layer as well by selecting them on the toolbar then click inside the document where you want them to appear. You can add as many of them that please your eye, you are the artist. If you do not like an image you have added you can click and drag it to the little trash can icon at the bottom of the layers Palette, and drop it in that will delete it from your composition. You can either choose save or not save when you have gone as far as you are willing. Just remember if you are pleased with your results click save often.

Hint; you can open two views in  Photoshop  click the little window icon on the menu bar- right-top then just click and drag your image to the background you just created. Remember when working with layers that the image has to be highlighted in the layers palette so you can work with it.

This is a basic example of how to use layers in  Photoshop  play with it and have fun you can always start over by dragging layers to the delete bin at the bottom right corner of the layers palette. Something special happened this spring with the release of Adobe Creative Suite 5, the maturation of Windows 7, and the ever increasing technology and performance of our PC’s. The new high definition media is about as easy to create, manage, and edit as its predecessor. Here we’re talking about a file size that has increased from 10 to 100 fold. High definition file captures are much larger, wider and previously would bring your PC editing capability to a standstill.

Windows 7 recognizes hi def video such as.mts file types and AVCHD video format. This is new and simply seeing a thumbnail image of your video at the file level saves enormous amount of time. The review process, scanning multiple files quickly by date, category, and now with a thumbnail image is so much easier. Windows 7 media player also recognizes this file type so when you want to preview the movie before bringing it into an editor, this is quite easy too. After Effects - Nulls and Parenting For Those Wayword Children

You might want them to share a path but scale differently or vice versa. Using a Null will let you do this.

I want to set up a dog chasing a cat. This is a cute animation with the animals emotions glowing, their relative size expanding with their emotions but their position is *very much* connected, the dog is chasing the Cat!

We can tie both to a Null to create this linked position while leaving them free …. to express their own emotions.

Parenting is a simple concept whose application draws explicitly from the terminology. As you design a relationship, simply ask yourself, which object drives? which object controls the flow you want to combine. Motion is an obvious application. Maybe you have an animated character riding in an automobile. Clearly the automobile drives! (forgive me). You place your character animation on a separate layer, or bring in the composition with him, and simply ‘pick whip’ the parent characteristic from the animation to the automobile.

The parent column may not be displayed by default. Within the time line panel resource columns, right click to display the columns for resources available, choose parent if it is not currently displayed.

I can’t verify ‘we reduce the Math’ using parenting but intuition would say so with fewer parameters to compute and keep up with and dependencies driving relationships, there must be some relief on our processing resources.

This can help with our hi def/avchd renderings where the sheer amount of extra information can add quite a bit to our render time and anything that contributes to the work load helps. I’ve found with my Canon vixia, using parent, expressions, and all the short cuts After Effects offers makes a real contribution to the rendering process time. There is another issue with the avchd hi def format and that is, it challenges your PC resources. Depending on your memory and processor capability, the review can appear jerky and staggered. Parenting won’t cure this but of the many resources and techniques which contribute to the consistency and fluid appearance of your composition, this is an easy one keep in your tool box.

Tips On Working With Images

You work with individual image files in Photoshop. Each of these files will be saved as a specific file format such as .jpeg or .gif. If you wish to change the file format (from .gif to .jpeg for example) in which an image is saved you will need to change it by using the Save As function to create a new file. While saving the image you will have a drop down box at the bottom that will allow you to select how the file will be saved.

It is important to note that you never want to open or edit an image directly from a removable device such as your camera or a flash drive. You must always move the file you wish to edit to your local hard drive before opening or editing it with Photoshop. This will save you from the possibility of losing your work due to a problem reading from or writing to a removable device.

Saving Your Images and Files

To save your images in Photoshop you will have to use the Save or Save As command. It is important to note that once you save and close a file, that those changes are permanent and can not be undone. 

My best recommendation to avoid permanently changing a file for the worse is to work on a copy of your file. To do this, simply save a backup copy to your hard drive and work on it instead of your original file. This way, if you make an error, you still have the original image to return to.

Bring Color to Your Photo Using Photoshop

Color brings life to your photo. Colors immediately draws people’s attention and most of the time we uses color as a way to communicate a message.

If you feel that your picture is dull and needs some life then you can bring life to it. You can be artistic just by adding color. You can do all this by using Photoshop to edit your picture.

Now, in this tutorial, I’m going to teach you how to bring color to your picture. It’s only going to be basic because I want to make it easier to follow for the beginners.

To start, open your Photoshop then go to File and select Open, after that choose the picture you wish to edit.

First, make the picture or the image darker by going to Image then select Adjustment then go to Levels. Next you will see a dialog box then move the black slider to the right to make the image darker.

After that, duplicate the photo by going to layer palette then drag the image layer to Create New Layer icon or to make it easier just press Ctrl + J. Once you duplicate the photo turn the layer to black and white. In that way, it will make the photo more contrast.

• Go to Image then Adjustment and select Hue/ Saturation.

Once again go back to the Levels; just repeat the above mention steps to create the photo darker, but you can move the other slider to make adjustments. Afterward, change the blending mode of the image to Screen.

• Go to Layer Palette located at the right side tool menu then at the top you will see a drop down box then select Screen.

Now, you can see that the image became brighter and different. After that, create a new layer and change the foreground color and background color to blue and light blue.

• Go to Layer Palette then select the Create New Layer icon.


• Then go to the right side tool menu and look for the two squares over lapping each other. Click the square and change the color.

Next, random clouds to the layer.

• Go to Filter then click Render and select Clouds

To apply the layer’s color to the layer below change the blending mode to Overlay.

• Go to the layer Palette then at the top you will see a drop down box then select Overlay.

Then make the entire layer as one. You can flatten the layer or press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E to get the result of all the underneath layers.

• To flatten the image layer, go to Layer then Flatten Image.

After that, change the blending mode of the image to softer light. Just repeat the step on how to change the blending mode. And lastly, change the brightness and contrast mode of your photo. Just go to Image then Adjustment and select Brightness/ Contract. Feel free to adjust, once you see that it looks good then click on Ok.

If you want a better result, just experiment with the tools on your Photoshop and keep on practicing.

Photoshop - Sky Captain Movie Photo Effect

In this Photoshop tutorial I’ll be explaining how to duplicate the effect you see all throughout the movie “Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow.” The whole film has a monotonous feel, with faux film-grain and glamorous softening throughout. Giving it a gritty but yet surprisingly plastic aesthetic that I haven’t seen in any other movie so far, excluding the movie “Sin City” which came close.

Step 1

Start off by finding a picture you’re wanting to add this effect to and open it or add it into an existing Photoshop document.

Step 2

Duplicate the picture layer then select the newly duplicated layer and go to Filters>Blur>Gaussian blur, The formula I used is 1.0 of gaussian blur per 100 pixels of image, So 500×500 is 5.0 Gaussian blur.

Step 3

Set the Layer mode on the duplicated layer to ‘Overlay’ for a Harder more saturated image, Or ‘Soft Light’ for the opposite.

Step 4

Select the original picture layer and Open the Hue & Saturation (CTRL + U).

Start turning down the saturation bar,

Until you get it to where it looks about right.

It should be fairly low on the bar, because the image should get most of its color from the duplicated layer.

Step 5

Duplicate the Blurred layer and go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise. Drag the bar all the way to the right, Make sure Monochromatic is checked and then click OK. Now set this Layer’s Layer mode to Soft Light and drop the Opacity down to about 10%.
