Making Old Photos New Again

There is nothing worse than walking down memory lane only to discover that your most treasured photos are on the verge of being lost forever. It does not matter how hard you try to protect your photos in the photo album, time will take its toll on them. If you do not act fast, you may never see those pictures again. Thankfully, modern technology has made preserving and restoring photos quick and easy. Even with no artistic abilities, you can restore many of your worn photos with a few clicks of a button. Below are a few tips to help you get started:

Be Gentle

Old photos have a tendency to break down as time wears on. If your photos are exceptionally old or have been subjected to very poor storage conditions such as high heat and humidity, do not even attempt to take them out of the photo album. Scan the entire page and crop the desired photo in   Photoshop .

Buy a Quality Scanner

While many pharmacies have photo makers that you can use, they do not allow you to make copies of professional photos. Just avoid the hassle by buying your own 3-in-1 printer. You can purchase this type of printer for as little as thirty dollars online and it will make things easier when you are ready to print your photos. Do not forget to pick some glossy photo paper while you are at it.

Watch Video Tutorials

Some people can learn a new skill just by reading an article or a book. Other cannot. To get the most out of your  Photoshop  experience, watch a few  Photoshop  tutorial videos on relevant to what you will be attempting. Video tutorials really can help.

To preserve your photos, you just have to scan them and save them to the computer. You will have a digital copy that can potentially last for centuries. If you need to do some editing, purchase  Photoshop  Elements and watch a few tutorials.  Photoshop  Elements is a cheaper version of the full featured  Photoshop  and has more than enough tools to edit your photos to perfection. With a little experience, you may even be able to restore photos that have sustained moderate damage due to humidity and other adverse storage conditions.

If you have photos that have sustained major damage, there is little that can be done to restore it with  Photoshop . Your only option is to take it to a professional along with a reference picture so that they can artistically reconstruct the photo according to your specifications.
