This is the first, in a series of articles regarding how to do business on eBay. eBay is the largest, most popular marketplace in the world for shopping online. It’s like a flea market on speed! You can find anything, from sugar cookies, to eBay motors (used cars, trucks, boats, etc). You can buy and sell on this open marketplace. eBay is the best direction to take when you’re learning about e-commerce. (e-commerce is a short name for electronic commerce. The term means buying and selling on the internet.) Most of the transaction has already been activated. This marketplace has already created the website, and platform that you need to buy and sell products. It has already created the endless traffic (millions of visitors) waiting to buy or sell products, on a daily basis. But most importantly, almost 2 million people currently make an income (part-time or full-time) by selling on eBay. In keeping with my theme, this is yet another example of how to get rich fast.
In order to buy or sell on eBay, you must first, set up 3 primary accounts:
1. Gmail
2. eBay
3. PayPal
Gmail Account
What is Gmail? Gmail is a free email, hosted by Google. You need to set up a separate business account (go to Gmail.com), exclusively for this business — to separate your personal business from your corporate business. You should use Gmail, first because of its superior spam filter, and secondly because of its free mail setup.
eBay Account
eBay is your platform to buy or sell products online. When you set up your account with eBay, (go to eBay.com) you’re going to need an eBay user ID. This ID is the name that you’re going to be recognized by, whenever you’re doing business on eBay. Simply put, it’s the name of your business. So you should choose something that is professional and easy to remember. When asked for your email address, use your newly created Gmail address. If you already have an eBay account, use that one, as your buyer or seller account. (The purpose for this is because it’s better to have an eBay user ID that’s been registered for a longer period of time — especially if you have used this account previously on eBay.
PayPal Account
What is PayPal? PayPal is a payment-processing company, owned by eBay. Your PayPal account is used to send or receive payments for your eBay transactions. When you sign up for your PayPal account (go to PayPal.com), you will be asked what type of account you want to create: either PayPal Premier account, or PayPal Business account. If you are new to PayPal, (like me) and your business is not currently set up, then choose the Premier account. When selling, you will need to add your bank account to PayPal, so that you can easily transfer any funds from PayPal directly to your bank. When buying, you can use your bank account or your credit card. If you already have a PayPal account — from another business — you can use that account, but you need to make sure that your account is a Premier account, instead of a Personal account. (Note: if you need to verify what type of PayPal account you currently have, then log into PayPal.com, and just below the tab, “Welcome, (your name)”, PayPal will tell you your “Account Type”. If your account is “Personal”, then click on the “Upgrade” button, in order to change it to a Premier account. Obviously, this is just the beginning of doing business on eBay, but this elephant is so large, that we have to eat it bite-by-bite. But these 3 accounts are must-haves for everybody.
