Even the oldest photo can be repaired. For most of my image editing jobs, I use clone tool to fix unwanted images or defects in pictures.

Repairing Photos in Photoshop doesn’t need to be difficult. I am going to make this tutorial simple and easy to follow for the novice.

To start our tutorial, you will need to open your Photoshop. Click on File, then select Open and pick the picture you wish to repair. It doesn’t matter if it’s scanned or a digital picture.

Before you start repairing your photo, go to the Layer window then drag the first or the original layer towards the Create a New Layer icon at the bottom part. In that way, you can make a duplicate layer so you can restore the original one. After that, double click the duplicate layer and renamed it.

Check your photo and determine which part of it you think that would needed some repair. After that, select the Clone stamp Tool located at the left tool menu. Take note that the clone stamp tool cannot be used directly, you need to have a source area where you would take a sample from. Usually, you need a part of the picture or image that matches the defective part.

Once you’re done identifying the part of the picture you think you can use, Hold down the Alt key, then you will see cross hairs, after that click on your target area or your source area. You can start to paint the area that you need to repair.

Remember to adjust the opacity and the flow of the brush that you’re going to use. Furthermore, if you want a good result, keep re-selecting your target area and wipe the brush over the defective area.

Take it slowly when you are repairing your photo. If you made a mistake just click on Ctrl + Z to undo it. You can also go to the history window to go back.
